The TV series THE NET is loosely based on the movie of the same name, but only loosely. However don’t let that put you off because this is quite a gripping story in it’s own right. The series premiered in the US in 1998 and it’s such a long time since I first watched it that it took the review copy to arrive in the post to jog my memory. The very attractive Brooke Langton stars as Angela Bennett, a computer expert / hacker who accidently uncovers information about an elite organization called the Praetorians who aims to take control of everyone’s lives through the use of advanced computer systems. The Praetorians becoming aware of Angela’s knowledge of them steal her identity and create a new one where Angela is on the FBI’s most wanted criminals list! THE NET unfortunately only lasted one season but at least it is a full season unlike some less fortunate series. Although times change very quickly in computing circles and certain elements may seem out dated the series is still well worth watching so this is not a release just for fans although for fans of the gorgeous Brooke Langton of course this is a must have box set.
