Synopsis

Rifat (Sükran Güngör) is a 75 year-old retired Turkish Judge. A police raid in the next-door flat leaves an already orphaned 5 year-old Kurdish girl, Hejar (Dilan Erçetin), completely alone. She is looked after by the judge’s Kurdish housekeeper but Rifat soon discovers that her silence, at first attributed to shock, is because she can speak only Kurdish, which is banned. Hostility and distrust between the two gradually turns into a journey of discovery and a touching friendship that is sealed by an actual journey to Hejar’s south-east Turkey homeland.
