The trip takes a turn for the worse when he stops on the way to rescue his "black sheep" older brother (Steve Zahn) who goads him into playing a practical joke on a lonely trucker over the CB radio, ridiculing a lonely voice in the night known only as 'Rusty Nail'. Lewis manages to convince the lone trucker to meet a bogus female admirer 'Candy Cane' at a nearby motel. The practical joke crashes and burns however, and Lewis, Venna and Fuller find themselves on the run, pursued by the unseen and terrifying Rusty Nail who wants the last laugh... and revenge. What starts as fun, ends in horror, as that voice turns into their worst nightmare - a trucker obsessed with exacting revenge.
