In the span of only a few months, 4 year-old Marla Olmstead rocketed from total obscurity into international renown and sold over $300,000 worth of abstract paintings. Then following a CBS 60 MINUTES investigative report that cast doubt on the authenticity of her work, her family's world changed overnight. Director Amir Bar-Lev, who became close to the Olmsteads during the duration of filming, scrutinizes our obsession with prodigies, explores the complex debate over what consitutes a work of art, and even goes on to examine the ethics of documentary story-telling. |
