Year: 2000 USA: Zeitgeist Films Director: Helen Garvy Country: USA USA: 110 mins USA Release Date: 10 November 2000 Movie reviews Synopsis REBELS WITH A CAUSE is a documentary chronicling the movements for social change of the 1960s that began with the civil rights movement and culminated with the angry protests against the US war in Vietnam. Told through the eyes of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) members, the film is about far more than SDS. It's about the values, motivations, and actions of a generation that lost its innocence but gained a sense of power and purpose. It's about a decade that changed America. SDS began in 1960 with a handful of members and high ideals, but by 1969, SDS had been transformed into a hard-hitting protest movement against the war in Vietnam, with over 100,000 members and 400 chapters. Two years later, the organization no longer existed, although its members continued on and its impact is still felt today. |
