Synopsis

During 1969 director Marcel Ophüls interviewed a wide cross-section of inhabitants of the provincial town of Clermont-Ferrand in France about how they’d lived their lives during the Vichy regime when the Nazis occupied France during World War II. The film was interspersed with substantial extracts from French and German newsreel and archive footage. What resulted was a challenging film that was disowned by the original producer and sidelined by French television.
