But the fantasy constantly clashes with his reality - singing engagements in nearly deserted third-rate basement clubs in Glasgow. Then, one day an aging underworld mobster and his wife take a fancy to Tony's singing, and begin doing him favours to help advance his career. But there's a price to pay and Tony is drawn dangerously deeper into the underworld. Before it's too late, he must choose between chasing his elusive crooner dream and capturing the heart of a winsome cigarette girl Irene (Kelly Macdonald), who seems to be his conscience guide. He can't have both and in the end, he must do it his way. |
